Ricki “Ricasso” Nelson is an award-winning filmmaker, published author, and multi-hyphenate creative. A Brooklyn-based filmmaker, she holds a B.A. in Film Studies and B.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Having a career in both independent and studio-level productions, her industry credits include but are not limited to The Summer I Turned Pretty, Appendage, and The Supremes at Earl’s All You-Can-Eat. She is also a Partners in Kind Filmmaker Fellow & Frank Capra Jr. Scholarship recipient.

Her short film Thank You for Your Time–a surreal exploration of being a Black woman in the corporate space—has received multiple awards during its 2025–26 festival run. 

In addition to being the founder of BCSC, she is the co-founder of SKRAPPI Productions, a Black female-led filmmaking duo. And in 2026, Ricki is set to serve as the Camp Coordinator for Black Girls Film Camp. Formerly Miss Black North Carolina USA (‘24), Ricki continues to merge creativity with advocacy, celebrating both art and community.
