My name is Malikah Marie Stafford. I’m from Atlantic City, NJ—a born and bred Jersey girl with the Jersey-tude to match. I’m a multi-hyphenate: television writer, playwright, spoken word poet, actress, singer, vocal arranger, amateur astrologer, and Beyoncé enthusiast.

After receiving my B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Africana Studies from Stockton University, I matriculated to New York University, and acquired my M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing, with a focus in television writing.

I explore the variations of the Black experience in my work. I believe in the adage of not writing about Black people being Black, but rather writing about Black people simply being. By centering this notion in my work , I hope to create pathways of healing for Black audiences who have been looking to be represented in stories that don’t center their racial trauma or their relation to whiteness. I hope to create new ways in which other people can understand how Black people are uniquely human.
